MODERN FOOTBALL TECHNOLOGY WINS INCUBATOR GRANT

THOUSAND OAKS, September 21, 2022 /San Fernando Valley Business Journal/ — Modern Football Technology places 2nd at inaugural Dorfman Incubator Grant Competition…

Modern Football Technology, a football analytics software company, won 2nd place at the Steven Dorfman Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s inaugural grant competition.  Hosted by Cal Lutheran, the program provides generous funding for early-stage startups with an educational twist.  The Dorfman Incubator Grants help launch promising early-stage companies that involve current college students and alumni (as founders, employees, interns, apprentices, and research assistants).  The grants provide non-dilutive early-stage funding ranging from $5,000 – $100,000 to US-based founders and startups participating in the Incubator’s open calls, annual New Venture Competition, Startup Weekends, and other competitions.

“These startup grants are a quintessential example of Cal Lutheran’s reciprocal partnerships prioritized in its 2022-27 Strategic Plan.  These partnerships aim to provide real-world learning to students and financial assistance and research expertise to community members, organizations, and businesses,” Cal Lutheran President Lori Varlotta said in a statement.

One of the recipients of a grant was Modern Football Technology, which helps football coaches analyze game data.  Undergraduate alumni Christian Masegian and Tom Leogrande co-founded the company.  In addition, former University of Texas football coach and Cal Lutheran alumni Tom Herman is an advisor and a board member.  The grant will allow the company to accelerate the development of its SaaS-based analytics platform.

Also receiving grant funding was Calabasas-based InvoCure, an online medical marketplace for medical care facilities.  The company’s founder and chief executive, Brian Malchow, received a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems in 1999 and an MBA in information technology management in 2001 from Cal Lutheran.

Applications for the next round of grants from Cal Lutheran will open early next year.
